In this horizontal landscape photograph, a woman swings on a tire in front of a vast ocean horizon. Depicted in black and white, the scene has a classic theme of the nude in nature. The twist in this artwork is the inclusion of a manufactured element: the tire swing. It is a symbol of freedom and

Composition

The landscape in this photograph is divided into horizontal regions. A nearly straight horizon separates the sky from the ocean. At the top, a dark branch dominates. With twigs and leaves intruding into the soft texture of the sky, the border is dark and nearly covers the entire top. At the bottom is another border, made of beachfront rocks.

Each of these horizontal regions has a distinct texture. The nearly flat ocean is populated by small waves. The branches and leaves at the top is the most pronounced texture in the image. The sky is soft but varied with clouds and the glow of sunlight. Highlights on the water hint at the low angle of the sun. The rocks along the lower edge are distinct enough to frame the image, without drawing the eye out.

Theme

The figure in this image is inserted into this natural scene at an angle. The line of the swinging rope is a prominent line that defies the series of horizontal lines set up in the landscape. Her shape, and the tire, dark against the background, also stand out. One may ponder whether we are guest or intruders in this environment; our conduct could decide the verdict.

In this black and white nude photo, a woman sits in profile. The artwork uses high contrast, a visual pathway, and subtle elements to communicate its story.

The woman’s head and face are tipped towards her nearby hand. This gesture indicates her attention. In her fingers, a single cube of ice drips water onto her chest. Drops of water trail down her torso to the tile patio behind her. One’s eye is likely initially drawn to the area of her face and hand and inclined to follow the path of water.

The central figure’s skin shines in the bright sunlight. Her dense, black hair contrasts starkly with the bleached-white plaster wall immediately behind her body. A subtle horizontal rectangle adds variation to the top of the wall. A single horizontal line across most of the image and a small vertical line connecting at a right angle pick up the light. This architectural feature is contained within the left edge of the frame, but intersects the right of the picture frame, giving the composition a more spontaneous feel.

The woman’s legs are bent, her knees raised to the level of her ribcage. She rests weight on a single arm, extended at an angle behind her back. Her emotional energy is focused inward, yet she communicates with her posture that she is aware of being observed.

Aaron Knight hopes you will enjoy this and other black and white wall art, and consider a purchase to enhance or begin your collection of fine art photography.

This fine art figure photograph showcases the aesthetic appeal of the nude form. This is black and white composition depicts a nude woman, on her back, legs in the air. The composition of this piece consists of two major elements, which are her contorted figure and a simple geometric background.

She lays with one arm over her eyes; this is the chief emotional take-away from the image. This may signify she is shading her eyes from bright sun, but the metaphorical impact is deeper. Without the opportunity to connect visually through eye-contact, her posture conveys a sense of comfort with the display of her nudity.

Her legs are lifted playfully against the wall, fitting her contour into the square format of the image. Her front leg is bent more than the back one, resulting in a stacking of her feet, one higher than the other.

The woman’s dark body contrasts starkly with the pale, almost featureless expanse of near-white background. This shallow environment she occupies contains a horizontal line which runs almost the full width of the image. Another horizontal line, where the floor meets the wall, creates a parallel division. These two lines divide the backdrop roughly into thirds, giving the design a sense of order. A vertical line in the upper left corner unbalances that sense of oder. An additional unbalancing feature is her hand, which extends closer to the left edge of the image than her head does to the right edge. This means her body is visually shifted to just left of center in the frame. The shift of her body and the inclusion of the vertical line in the otherwise empty upper right corner create a sort of imperfect rebalancing. The slightly asymmetrical image is more energetic than if it were perfectly centered against a uniform background.

Half of her face is hidden, but she is not faceless.

This art photograph depicts a female athlete outdoors, nude in a landscape. She bursts with energy, in mid-stride, leaping through the air. The background is an expansive, nearly featureless dune field of white sand in New Mexico’s Tularosa Basin desert. A lively blue sky stands in contrast to the neutral desert sand.

Her hair trails behind her head, emphasizing the sense of movement. Her expression is confident and jubilant; her chin is level, eyes wide and gazing forward. Outstretched arms and legs echo the vastness of the dessert and the adventure it may symbolize.

The color palette is predominantly light, neutral tones of beige and gray. The golden tones of the main subject stand out against the other colors. Distant hazy peaks draw attention to the horizon which cuts the image in two a bit above the center. This generous allocation of space to the desert sand emphasizes the depth of the picture. The ripples of sand behind the figure are strewn with footprints that lead into the distance. At the far right edge, tufts of vegetation can be seen in the distance below the mountains. In the lower left corner we see the shadows of her legs.

The female form has been a subject that has fascinated artists for centuries, and this contemporary art photography of a female athlete outdoors follows this tradition.

Considerations

This action photograph includes both sharp detail and elements of motion blur. The most obvious effects of motion blur can be see around the edge of the subject, at her feet and hands. These aspects can be examined prior to purchase by fully zooming in on each preview.

In this art photograph, a nude woman holds a garment which she appears to be either removing from or putting into a washing machine. The clothes washer has its lid open and is centered in the frame on a black-and-white checkerboard-patterned vinyl floor. A slim portion of a clothing dryer is visible at the right, just enough is shown to identify the appliance.

The central figure is predominantly lit from the right, with deep shadows defining her back through her legs. Her face and hair glow in an unseen light source, perhaps a rising or setting sun outside an adjacent window.

Two knobs are visible on the control panel of the clothes dryer. The panel has a gleaming brushed-metallic finish. Above the woman are three cabinets. Two knobs are visible on the cabinet doors, repeating the shape of the knobs on the dryer. Behind her is a door, recognizable only by a single hinge, the rest of the door is hidden by a thick curtain. The lines of the appliances, door frame, and cabinet are straight up and down, as well as left to right.

On the back wall, visible in the gap between the washer and the door is an electrical cord plugged into an outlet. The cord forms a wavy black line. The other similarly wavy lines in this composition are the curtain on the door, the woman’s light hair, and the fabric that she holds.

The incongruity of the unexpected scene is that a nude woman is performing the everyday task of doing laundry. The image is clearly a performance: she has a single garment and her stance prioritizes being seen over completing her presumed task.

Other than her nudity, there are few distinctive elements in the scene. The nondescript cabinetry and confined space make it appear to be the laundry room of a modest home.

The black-and-white checkerboard flooring has a nostalgic flair and draws interest to the setting. The classic tile pattern is one well suited to a monochromatic art nude photograph. Compositionally, the flooring pattern is an example of perceptive lines in an image that is mostly structured through horizontal and vertical lines. In this way, it is one of the few elements that gives the small space a sense of depth.

The female form in art photography presents both challenge and opportunity. An extremely challenging or beautiful subject eases the artists task of creating a memorable image. Alexis embodies the heat of the moment with her pose. Some embrace the incandescent glow while others cannot stand it. This image is obviously for those who stand apart.

The sun is portrayed in this photograph as so intense that everything seems to glow with heat. Perspiration is a given. From tiny beads to long streaks, the liquid catches the light. Multiple beads roll down the woman’s legs, torso, chest, and face.

The white wall contrasts with her skin and the surface glares with the heat. Her dark skin also seems to radiate. She is at once vulnerable and secure. Undaunted by the warmth of the sun or the gaze of the viewer. Her posture shows her at rest and exerting effort simultaneously. Her back is flat on the ground, legs raised in the air. Her pose is deliberate: legs aligned to form half of a zig-zag shape; one arm aligned with her torso.

Delicate patterns adorn the wall except where it gives way to blinding light. Dark tufts of hair add shadowy texture at the other end of the tonal range. Her earring compliments the rolling beads by catching the sun’s light.

Depictions of the female form in photography can be static or dynamic. This overall composition is static. The nude woman is approximately centered, with equal amounts of negative space on all four sides. There is a strong diagonal that disrupts this symmetry. A line from her feet and calves, through her face and right hand divide the design. Straight, horizontal, and vertical edges of the wall behind her add structure to the image.
