The artwork is a black and white photograph of a nude woman laying on a hand-crafted wooden table. She is focused and serene, horizontal in a graceful pose. Her right arm is stretched out, with her hand clutching the edge of the table top. The background includes a large, dilapidated window, evoking nostalgia and classicism. They view beyond is the roofline of an industrial complex.

Her feet are raised, her legs playfully crossed at the ankle. Laying face down, just part of her chest is exposed. This faux modesty harkens to the origins of pinup in which the viewer is enticed by the notion that what we are seeing is a rare balance between nudity and modesty. In this presentation, the the pose provides a context of playful humor.

Her long, blonde hair cascades down her torso and disappears behind the small of her back. Her long, straight hair frames her face as she directs her gaze in the direction of the viewer. Paint is peeling off the old, rough concrete wall behind her. Her body is bright and stands out against the deep tones of the table and the walls which fade into darkness.

The central figure in this black and white photograph is the nude woman, creating a timeless appeal. The combination of textures – the woman’s skin, the wooden bench, the painted wall – add depth to the image. Although not explicitly conveyed, there might be a narrative about beauty in simplicity or strength in the face of decay.

A curvaceous nude figure is contorted in this monochrome art nude photo. Her pose is a display of athleticism. She seems fearless and relaxed in her nudity.

She is folded on herself, with her weight on her shoulders and shoulder blades. Her knees graze her forehead, her legs are bent, feet in the air. One arm is outstretched on the floor, in the opposite direction that her hair trails away from her body. Her other arm is raised, bent at the elbow, tucked behind her back. Her raised hand is visible, casually peeking out from behind her.

The color palette of the composition is predominantly deep, warm grays. These dark tones set a serious and calm mood. The figure’s brightly-lit skin glows against the expanse of dense empty space. Her hair, spread along the floor, tends to blend with the surroundings, making it less prominent than the rest of her. Shadows along her contours help define her form and add interest to her pose.

The design of this artwork relies of the main subjects limbs, which extend in opposite directions. The atypical placement of her face near her knees invites the viewer’s attention. Her hair echoes the direction of her legs as well as continuing the line created by her outstretched arm.

This monochrome art nude photo is somber and thoughtful. Compare this to more fun art nude picturing a colorful poolside composition.

Art collectors seeking contemporary black and white nudes may often look for images that stand out. An image that commands your immediate attention, yet keeps you coming back to explore can be of particular interest.

A voluptuous nude woman lays on the floor, her body bends backwards with her legs over her body and her toes touch the floor past her head. She is isolated in an expanse of featureless gray. Long blonde hair is unfurled from her head along the floor. In her earlobe is a pearl stud earring. At the right edge, her hands lay in a paradoxically relaxed posture. The central contradiction of this image is her peaceful presentation of an unusual pose.

Her pose does nothing in particular to accentuate her sensuality, yet her physical allure is far from concealed. Her athletic performance is a signal to her vitality, flexibility, and exuberance. In this way, the artwork blurs the lines between traditional pinup and more pure aesthetic representations of the human form.

The exuberance of her pose and expression bring a joyful tone to the colorless composition. The scene is also a display of her musculature and flexibility.

The composition consists of a gradient of gray tones and the figure, anchored to the neutral environment by her shadow. Hints of warm sepia invade the spectrum of grays. When viewing contemporary black and white nudes, many collectors trace a path, starting from the first place their eye looks. This is called a visual pathway. A strong visual pathway is one that keeps the viewer interested, revisiting the image for repeated exploration of its details.

As alternatives to this image, also consider a slightly larger monochrome art nude. Or, if you prefer, collect contemporary photography of a colorful outdoor scene.

Two women gleam against the saltmeadow of dark mud and cordgrass in this monochromatic art photograph. Their bodies mirror one another in complementary poses—each bent at the knees and propped upon a single arm.

Composition

The photograph is divided into horizontal bands, each region with its own tonal range and texture. The sky and water are similar in appearance, as the two brightest bands of tonality in the image. These two bright areas are separated by a dark wedge of land at the horizon. The lower portion of the image is dense with rich tones and occupies the majority of the space. This dark area surrounds the two women which emphasizes their lighter tonality. The foreground is unoccupied by people or vegetation, an unobstructed view that implies a familiarity with the subjects.

The subjects’ long hair has a texture that mimics that of the cordgrass. The mud is comparably smooth in texture, as are their bodies. Mud is visible on considerable portions of their skin.

Their focus is split between one another and their immediate surroundings. This is evident in their body language and angle of their heads. Their gaze is cast downward.

Inspiration and Theme

Female nudes in the landscape follow a history that includes not only photography but painting and drawing. Aesthetically, one can make comparisons between the lines and textures of the body with those of nature.

This image seeks to balance the landscape with the figures. They inhabit this zone, rather than dominate it or employ it as a mere backdrop. Compare this to another black and white nude depicting this scene. It is available in a slightly smaller size, with a tightly-cropped emphasis on the figures.

This is a limited edition of five archival photographs, plus one artist’s proof.

With large scale art nude photography, a female figure is a captivating subject. Here, portrayed in cool tones, she poses provocatively against an expanse of indeterminate depth. A gentle light defines the upper edges of her curves. Soft shadows clad the lower edges of her torso and limbs.

The lack of stark contrast between foreground and background emphasizes two-dimensionality, giving it a graphic feeling, a reference to retro “pinup” ink drawings on paper.

The unabashed pose defies the convention of more demure fine art photography. Printed at large scale, the image makes a rebellious statement. The body fills the space, imparting an intimate tone that defies the scale of the artwork. She sits with her weight on one hip and thigh, as well as her hand. Her other foot serves to steady her. Her free hand rests on a raised knee, forming an additional line and leaving a space between her body and the arm.

This image was produced as a studio nude, with controlled lighting and color. The pose and sparse environment set a mood by highlighting particular features of the subject and pose.

The size and impact of this large scale art nude photography will draw the attention of viewers. Framed with a generous mat, it can command attention in a small room or a larger one. The provocatively enticing subject matter will appeal to art photography collectors who want to express their individual style and unconventional nature.

A pattern of lines dominate the photograph: the cast shadows of parallel bars, distorted by projection and perspective. The subject strikes a dramatically elongated pose and the shadows run across her body.

The composition is comprised of the female body, two concrete surfaces that form a right angle, and the sky. Strong shadows take both vertical and diagonal form where the two walls meet. The primary subject, a feminine figure, occupies this space and her shadow bends around this corner, merged with the lines.

Her curves stand in contrast to the hard concrete slabs of the background and the regimented lines of shadow. The lines march diagonally across the ground then vertically up a portion of the wall, capped by a much bolder almost horizontal line of shadow.

Where the shadows fall upon her body, they serve to emphasize her organic shape in an otherwise flat and angular setting. A wedge of sky at the top of the image and treetops peaking over the concrete barrier hint at the world beyond the visible scene. This triangular shape echoes the incomplete wedge shapes formed by the vertical concrete barrier and the visible portion of the ground. The shadows draw the eye in from the bottom right corner, along the subject’s body from toes to fingers, and then finally along the bold shadow line in an imperfect zig-zag.

These shadow bars enclose the scene, almost giving the impression of a cage that contains the protagonist. Her pose evokes an attempt to break free, with one arm and leg fully extended and held off the ground, fingers reaching and toes pointed. Her other arm is bent to support her torso, her other leg bent with her toes resting delicately on the ground. Her back arches gracefully and her head is thrown back, her chin reaching for the sky. A strategically angled thigh prevents the image from being erotic, though it is still a sensual celebration of the female form.

Her clenched fist, sharply angled head posture, and desperately reaching arm all seem to suggest anguish and distress, although her closed eyes and elegantly arranged legs provide an apparently relaxed counterpoint. Perhaps she is stretching luxuriously, perhaps she is fervently attempting to escape her shadowy bonds.

The monochromatic palette of this nude art photograph removes the distraction of color, allowing the viewer to more deeply appreciate the female form as well as the pattern and strong perspective created by the lines of shadow. Subtle tonal differences reveal the subject’s contours while the bold shadows of the bars play over her curves and highlight the topography of her form.

Atop the array of shadows is a bold horizontal band of shadow, four times as thick as the other shadows. These projections are on slabs of concrete that enclose our view. A hint of sky both gives us a sense of the world beyond and affirms how shallow the visible scene is.

A solitary figure of a woman lays supine on an expanse of concrete. Afternoon sunlight casts a pattern of long shadows diagonally across the scene. The stripes wrap over the curves of her torso, legs, and arms. The projections tell of a railing, just out of view. Her location is an ambiguous outdoor space, such as a walkway or parking lot.

This nude art photograph makes use of strong lines to complement the female figure. The parallel diagonal shadow lines that dominate the right half of the image establish a clear pattern. This pattern draws attention, making the region a major part of the composition.

This artwork also makes novel use of the relationship between subject and negative space. Normally the body as the main subject would not be considered negative space. However, in this photograph the shadow lines on the body help associate parts of the figure with the negative space of the background.

There are few clues as to what is outside the frame. Aside from the shadows of the railings and the industrial surface, her location is a mystery. This, along with the close framing of the body, help set the enigmatic mood that may keep collectors returning to this artwork.

She reclines, posed away from the viewer. We see the underside of her chin and nose. Her eyes are barely visible as slits. Yet she conveys emotion in her confident, contented expression, which is echoed in her posture. Her back arches and her arms are outstretched. One leg is bent, her knee raised. She points the toes of the foot on her straight leg.

This is limited edition photography of a solitary female nude against an industrial backdrop. The artwork measures 36 inches/91 cm in height and 24 inches/61 cm wide. At this scale, the figure appears an impressive three-quarters life size, or larger.

She lays, seemingly motionless, in the cool afternoon sun. Light bathes her outstretched body. She is rendered in tones of dove gray that descend into rich shadows. Her curious position foreshortens the body, revealing her face, arm, chest, and one thigh.

Her skin is smooth, but the overall image texture is grainy and gritty. Beyond the focus on her face, her body dissolves into softness and it blurs into the background near her knee. A continuous arc divides the image where concrete abuts the sky. Tufts of trees in the distance balance out the dark tones that punctuate the foreground.

Her face expresses intensity, absorbed in the tactile sensation of the cold ground, warm sun and the sensual expression of her posture. She cradles her head against one arm. Her hair flows from her head, wraps around her arm, and spills onto the rough ground. The other arm stretches to the top of the concrete barrier.

This composition contains three competing textures. Her hair forms wavy lines that chase each other in semi-parallel waves. Her face, neck and arm are silky with faint freckles. The foreground is filled with the grit of brushed concrete. Amorphous shapes inhabit the distant background.

A knee and thigh are raised in a carefree exhibition. Yet, our vantage point leaves much of the display to our imagination.

This limited edition photography employs Knight’s tonal alteration technique. This process resembles the grayscale of black and white photography, with subtle near-neutral colors strategically mixed in.

If this soft-toned image is too gentle, consider this higher energy New York skyline nude .

Buy black and white nudes

Buy black and white nudes directly from the artist’s studio. In this limited edition archival photograph, two figures lay in the tidal saltgrass and pluff mud. Morning sun casts crisp shadows in the small clearing. Strands of cordgrass interrupt the lines of their bodies, obscuring their contours. This unconventional approach places out of focus strands of grass directly in front of the figures, in the center of the composition.

The vegetation frames the two nude figures in a pattern of dark grays. The blades are tilted at a nearly uniform diagonal. The pattern is punctuated by sporadic bright reeds. Warm tones emphasize the organic motif of this monochrome nude photograph.

The two nude figures recline in opposite directions. Their bodies glow brightly in the dark toned surroundings. Their hips line up, each others feet aligned with the other’s shoulders. Their bodies are patterned with the splatter of dark, rich mud. Both of their gazes are cast downward, mentally absorbed in their immediate moment and location.

Each figure has one knee bent and one leg straight. One points her toes. Their demeanors are relaxed.

Emily’s World is a collection of 100 art nude photographs created through collaboration with its namesake subject. To celebrate the female form, this art nude photography book contains a variety of themes, including pinup, industrial, and nude in the landscape.

This collective is organized thematically, according to color treatment, orientation, scene, and mood. Each pair of facing pages is arranged as a collective presentation. The images are also sequenced to connect in some manner, imparting the notion of a broader narrative progressing from beginning to end. The central character in this photo book portrays moods through her poses, which range from unequivocally whimsically to provocatively sensual, as well as contemplative poses.

Including color as well as black and white photography. Extra heavyweight paper is sturdy to the touch, reduces image bleed-through, and glossy pages provides superior, vivid photography. Of the book’s 100 nude photographs, many are full page, and there is a two-page spread as well.

Studio Art Nudes

Studio compositions are free of distraction, inspired by the sparse indoor scenes of time-honored academic figure studies. Rooted in the archetypes of photographic history, this subject bridges old and new with her personal interpretations. Emily dominates these unembellished expanses of neutral floor and wall. Light gently fades behind her poses, which range from classic pinup to purely improvisational contortions. She is nimble and expressive as the sole inhabitant of this straightforward environment. She confidently commands the space, her emotional presence filling the void with nuance. These presentations are more than just a study of the allure of the body. Nude geometry, meticulous lighting, and deliberate technique converge in aesthetically pleasing compositions that endeavor to stir the soul. Subsequent studio sections feature light or dark accents. White or black fabric, leg warmers, and rigid frames are examples of accents that help guide the eye around the body and through the composition.

Cupcakes

We can’t think of anything sweeter than witnessing Emily indulge in cupcakes and wonder if she had as much fun making a mess. Her playful personality shines through in her performance with this delicious prop. The scene with the confections develops in unexpected ways through the character she has invented. But Cupcake isn’t her new nickname—our heroine in this visual journey is far too nuanced to be summed up as delightful or delectable. Her capabilities extend well beyond this playful role. A spotless tableau in tones of robin’s egg and pale blush sets the mood. Pink gumdrops adorn the swirls of creamy frosting. Crumbs, wrappers, and frosting are smeared and fall to the floor. Emotions range from satisfaction to bemusement and puckish mischief. Her seemingly candid posture is nuanced by some subtle posing such as pointing her toes and gesturing with her hands. In the first image, she holds the cupcake by the wrapper, between a finger and thumb, her other digits extended. The other cupcake has spilled on the floor in an orchestrated display. Frosting is on her nose and she sucks the same off a finger. This progression of three photographs evokes the playfulness of vintage pinup photography and illustration. She exhibits the confidence and ease that comes with control as the desserts are crumbled and smeared. In the first image, she directs our imagination with her sprightly upward glance. In the next, she connects directly through eye contact, and in the final image she is clearly focused on the sweet in her hand.

Marsh, Sky, Sea

This adventurer skillfully integrates her contours into the forms of the landscape. Her amber figure brings golden vitality to the green tree lines and marshes as well as the blues of sky and water. The lines of the horizon, shore, and rows of vegetation provide a structure to the backdrop. Thickets of marsh grass create dense textures that contrast with cloudless skies. The pattern of ripples on river water stands between these extremes. Depictions of Venus in the wilderness follow a time-honored tradition predating the Renaissance. The story’s heroine appears unconcerned and at ease in these natural settings. The use of landscape imparts these images with a sense of timelessness. Other than subtle clues of contemporary style and posture, she could conceivably inhabit any moment in history. This series includes both my tonal modification technique (subtle neutral colors resembling black and white) and color images. The neutral-toned compositions emphasize elements of line, texture, and pattern. The color images employ a hand-tailored palette to guide the eye between elements.

Desolate Bridge

This series of bridge images pictures the body in an unlikely environment of urban elements on the edge of nature. The elements are sparse: a nude figure, a sidewalk, a wall, the sky, a railing and its shadow, street lights, and distant trees. Many of these elements form striking lines that guide the eye. The pattern of shadows created by the railing, the vertical risers of street lights, and the sweeping arc of the top of the wall against the sky all add to the structure of the image.

Whether she connects with the viewer’s gaze or is absorbed in thought, the interaction between her body and the concrete invites the viewer’s attention.

The human body is delicate compared with a concrete barrier meant to stop three tons. On their own, the images’ primary impact is visual. Striking diagonal arcs divide the space between the sky and concrete. The figure interrupts these cold scenes with organic curves.

Textures pervade each composition. The rough concrete contains complex patterns that tell of its age. The subject’s long hair makes sweeping lines.

Elongated shadows impart the time of day as late afternoon, near sunset. The pattern unifies her body with the pavement in those images where it projects stripes onto both.

She is oddly at ease, exhibiting bonhomie in this desolate setting. Her more impassioned poses push the border between carefree exuberance and erotic seduction.

The meaning changes with the knowledge that this is a bridge that extends from a populated area, across a flourishing marsh, and into the edge of nature. It symbolizes our ever-expanding reach, for better or worse, into the natural world. The quarter-mile bridge leads to “nowhere,” a would-be development that was stopped by economic recession. However, it will inevitably someday connect to a development. For now, nature is spared the onslaught of expanding concrete and asphalt. Our heroine is a symbol for beauty and freedom exploring the edge of the metropolis.

Her posture, although seemingly at rest, suggests an uneasy tension—stopped, but not relaxed. The solid structure is a metaphor for the stability that technology and development bring to our civilization.

Monuments to ingenuity, structures like this bridge stand against the elements and represent the multitudes of technologies that allow us to live well beyond the lifespans of our predecessors in the wild. The color palette of drab concrete and pale skin mute the would-be cheerfulness of her sun-drenched body.
