Contemporary fine art nude

Two nude figures sit atop a rough, rocky outcrop, with the blue ocean receding behind them. Their poses create a study of opposites in this contemporary fine art nude. One sits alert and upright with her neck stretched upward and her gaze fixed to the right, beyond the frame of the image. Her delicate feet are perched on the jagged surface with her knees elegantly drawn to the left. Her hands rest on the back of the second nude, whose body is folded forward dramatically. This folded figure hides her head behind her companion. One breast is visible pressed against her thigh and one arm drapes down onto the rocky surface.

The figures’ poses and surroundings suggest a moment of drama and mystery. They appear fixed and still, as though time has stopped. The expression on the face of the upright figure displays no alarm, but appears attentive and expectant. The posture of the folded figure suggests loss and tragedy, a retreat from the world. With her face hidden, however, the viewer is left to wonder at her emotional state.

This sense of suspension and timelessness is accentuated by the balanced composition of the image. The figures are neatly centered in the frame, atop a triangular form of rock. The receding ocean leads to a strong horizon line which bisects the image, dividing it almost perfectly in half. This straight, horizontal line intersects and contrasts with the smooth, curved line formed by the one figure’s beautiful, bowed back. The viewer’s eye is equally pleased by the contrast of textures. The jagged surface of the rock presses into soft, carnation-hued skin, with the rippled ocean and velvety sky behind.

This contemporary fine art nude photograph is named after North Eleuthera, an island of the The Bahamas where it was photographed.
