Ava navigates an expanse of electric blue water with outstretched arms and legs. Her sensual display is minimally obscured by the refraction of the water that barely covers her. Female fine art nude photographs are admired by collectors not for their explicitness, but for the artistry that celebrates the body.

Vibrant blue ripples dominate this composition, surrounding the salmon color of the woman’s body with a blast of intense color. A swath of reddish-brown hair punctuates the image. She floats approximately through the middle of the frame, with horizontal bands of shadow echoing the direction of her body at the top and bottom.

The figure is isolated in the blue void that surrounds her. The negative space is filled with the pattern of surface reflections.

The effect of perspective is subtle, but gives the viewer a sense of looking down at the surface. The impact of this oversized nude artwork is imposing at any distance.

The composition exists primarily along a single plane: the surface of the water. Although there are subtle hints at depth, the presentation is immediate. This reduced dimensionality is graphical. The shimmering pattern and the “X” created by the body become elements of form. This subtle adaptation furthers the image from documenting a time, place, and person, and closer to presenting the subject as a set of visual elements.

Although her skin tones are muted, they contrast with the intense blue surrounding the body. In the realm of female fine art nude photography, this image is decidedly inexplicit. However, in the context of art nudes, it is not lacking eroticism. Her alert posture and deliberate pose express intentional sensuality.

This limited edition archival photograph is in collections in the United States and United Kingdom.
