The heroine swims through idyllic, cerulean waters. Myriad hues of blue dance on the surface, swirling across this colorful art nude photograph. The flow of the water is disturbed by her body’s movement. Her warm-colored form is obscured by cold, blue patterns of ripples and bright highlights on the surface. Her form is outlined with daubs and eddies of color.

After the heat, the water is a cool retreat. Swimming is a refuge of refreshing sensation. We are connected to water through memories and ancestry. The retreat is a homecoming, a daily morsel of freedom.

She is pursuing and transitioning, symbolized by the upward diagonal movement of her body and tight cropping. A diagonal swath of lighter water is aligned with her body, the corners being darker. Her head is held high, a sliver of her profile visible, lit in golden sunlight that creates a halo in her brown tresses. In this colorful art nude photograph, she is both serene and determined.

Water is an apt metaphor for change. The slightest touch creates ripples and its appearance in any moment will never be identical to that of any other moment. After a while, the unique patterns take on a familiarity. This recalls the phase plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose, “the more it changes, the more it’s the same thing.”

Archival photographs from this edition are in private art collections across the United States. This popular fine art nude was featured by international art dealers and it quickly sold out.
