Sensual Nude Photograph

This sensual nude photograph features two nudes against a pale pink background. With limbs intertwined, they are nearly in the same pose, but inverted. A visual paradox exists, the viewer feels that they are gazing from above, but perspective gives the illusion of viewing straight-on. They appear weightless and floating. The inversion of similar poses gives the piece rotational symmetry.

The models’ backs interlock forming an hourglass shape. Each left arm crosses over the other’s torso, concealing her breast in a set of parallel lines. They face in opposite directions, each’s buttocks pressed into the other’s shoulder blades.

A soothing palette makes the piece light and airy with slight interruptions of dark between the parallel arms and behind the smalls of their necks. The straight arms and shadow between them create a dominant diagonal line through the center of the composition.

A faint pattern embellishes the pink background with an exotic flavor. A faint halo radiates from each model’s head. The background complements the beige of the model’s skin tones; consequently, the figures blend in more than they come forward. The models are disconnected from the viewer, gazing sensually into the distance with their lips parted.

The central theme in this sensual nude photograph is two bodies intertwined. The composition recalls the yin-yang symbol. The figures are both dichotomous with each other and in harmony with one another.

While similar, subtle differences in the models’ poses, such as the position of the feet, establish each one’s individuality. They are two unique components of a larger whole. The contrast between dark and light represents another dichotomy. The dark gaps between the models and the deep brown shades of their hair are juxtaposed with the light, airy background and soft skin tones.
