Art photography for sale

This black and white art photography is for sale from the artist’s studio. The image depicts a single figure against sandstone formations in the American desert. Her stance is fearless she and dominates the tightly-cropped design. One leg trails behind the rest of her weight and she clutches one arm. The posture reveals defined musculature. Her attention is directed out of the frame toward something unseen. Pearly hair flairs slightly in a breeze.

Each portion of the composition was painstakingly scrutinized and worked by the artist. Faintly warm (golden) and cool (bluish) tones accentuate the black and white photograph. Blazing sunlight illuminates the figure in stark contrast to the rock formation and substantial sky.

The figure contains tones that range from gleaming white to inky black. The pronounced range of lights and darks throughout the composition create a bold presentation. The body is unobscured except by strong shadows.

The rocky background is divided into textured layers. The ground beneath her feet is strewn with pebbles that congregate in patches of pattern. Tafoni (small, round, smooth openings in the rock surface) and other features provide variations to these textures. Many random variations exist in the rocks. An additional deliberately curious detail, a small padlock key, hangs from her neck from a metal dogtag chain.

The ancient dunes are now cemented into sandstone, due to the effects of elements such as long-gone water. Erosion is evidence that flooding has occasionally distressed the area. This scene is decidedly dry and the only vegetation is a couple of tiny shrubs shrinking into the shadows. The desolate Arizona landscape adds to the mood of the art photography.

This art photography is for sale to collectors as a limited edition archival photograph. It is hand signed and numbered by the artist, intended for framing.
