Black and white wall art

Two women rest in the water at the shallow end of a swimming pool. This black and white wall art is a study in balance and imbalance. One figure faces us, the other is turned away, her face hidden. One is walking while the other sits. One has pale skin, the other is deeply pigmented.

The two figures are the most obvious relationship in the composition. Additional pairs of elements are visible in the background. Two palms are reflected in a pane of glass. The faint silhouettes of trees might be lost had they not been framed within a rectangular shadow which divides the window and placed to fill the blank spot above the lower of the two figures. Further out of the center are a pair of electrical boxes and conduit running up a wall.

The figures are orchestrated to appear as characters in a fictional story. However, the assortment of cords at the left, along with the roof gutters above, give the image a spontaneous mood. Viewers may have the impression that we’re observing an impromptu moment rather than a carefully assembled scene.

This black and white wall art presents the viewer with many details to explore.
