A nude female figure lies parallel to a vast, sweeping wall of concrete. Her arm is elongated and her body foreshortened. The wall recedes from a large mass into a sliver in the distance. This original fine art nude depicts, in black and white, a sharp face and the rest of the body blurred with the surrounding textures. Her face is emotive, with detailed, nuanced features, framed in shadowy, sweeping hair. In black and white photography, female nudes are an arresting subject. Paired with offbeat surroundings, her story becomes more compelling.

She gazes at the wall, eyes wide and lips parted in fascination. She embraces the concrete, conforming to the inner surface, her smooth skin and lush hair contrast with the hard, uninviting gray. Her upward glance and raised leg suggest that perhaps she is about to rise from the firm surface. The lighting is serene. The most dramatic contrast occurs in her hair, drawing more attention to her face.

The foreground consists of cool, nearly grey tones that set a solemn, serene mood.  The muted, pastel hues of the sky suggest dusk or dawn. These delicate hues oppose the color-drained foreground.

In the canon of black and white photography, female nudes can be portrayed as fine art, erotic, or pinup. This image contains aspects of each yet doesn’t conform fully to any of these categories. The face and body of the model are straight out of pinup. Yet the offbeat pose explores compositional ideas.
