In this contemporary art photograph, two nude figures are featured underwater, one filming with a movie camera and the other posing. The spotlight equally belongs to both subjects in this scene beneath the surface.

Theme

The woman holding the camera is the filmmaker. The camera obscures her face but explains much about her intentions and demeanor. She shines through the light of others, orbiting every scene unseen. We’re dying to know what happens next, yet we’re afraid to find out.

The female posing for the camera is the movie star. Although her back is toward the lens, she seems acutely aware of its presence. She is not perfect, but we’re completely captivated. She is in another world but right next to us. We know her well, although we’ve never met.

When underwater, movement slows to poetry, sound becomes alien, light becomes magic. Patterns of light reflect across the nude bodies and surfaces. The soundtrack is in our memories.

Composition

The predominant colors of this contemporary figurative photography are blue and a rosy peach. The warm-colored figures stand out from the cool watery blue background. The movie camera is a key point of interest, signaling the intention and activity that build this quirky narrative.

Considerations

This image is a departure from Knight’s primary style. Throughout the artwork is a soft grainy/gritty effect. This effect is most pronounced in the corners. These aspects can be examined prior to purchase by fully zooming in on each preview.
