A woman kneels on her hands an knees. Her weight is on her outstretched arms. With her hand, she pulls a shiny, heavy chain tightly against her. The chain is secured to an unseen location above her.

In this studio photograph, the figure is central to the composition. She is rendered in tones of dove and pearl, and inhabits a smokey gray, indistinct space. The figure contrasts with the featureless background and the links of chain contrast with her warm body. Her wavy abundance of hair adds to the selection of patterns.

She makes a direct connection, with eye contact, parted lips and a relaxed expression. Her attention is directed outward, giving clues as to the nature of the thoughts and emotions. Her face is tipped upward, rather than directed at her actions with the chain.

Her face serves as a central point of interest. The lines of her body and limbs guide the viewer through the rest of the image. Her feet are together, as are her hands. Her knees are slightly parted and her hips raised. Her arms form diagonals; combined with the chain, they form a series of radial lines.
