Black and white nude artwork

This bold black and white nude artwork presents the female figure in monochrome. There are three main elements to this composition: the figure, a sweeping line of rope, and the negative space (background) around the subjects.

The mood is predominantly dark, expressing movement through angled lines. These lines sweep through the image, intersecting the top of the frame and diverging at the floor. Subtle warm tones enhance the shadows and light grays of the composition.

The brightest line through the image is the triple-strand twisted rope. This undulating line coincides with the arc of her arms. A wedge of darkness points upward between her body, limbs and the rope. This negative space draws additional attention to the movement of the body. Her back leans into the rope, putting faith in its support and a single heel on the ground.

Near the top of the image, two lines of rope are visible. One of these extends to nearly touch the floor. A shadow is evident under this end of the rope. The other line of rop apparently supports the main character’s back, and wraps around one hip and leg.

Her legs cross at the ankle, extending one knee in front of the other. Her raised thigh partly diminishes the explicit nature of this black and white nude artwork. However, this depiction of the female form remains a rather forthright display.

More subtle seductive elements exist, too. The rope acts almost as an intimate dance partner as it intertwines with her torso and limbs. Her right hand is barely visible, holding the rope near her upper thigh.

The level of sensual references, both suggestive and overt, place this image outside of the mainstream of black and white nude artwork. The image flirts with the line between more provocative and general art nudes, distinguishing any nude art collection it inhabits as not strictly pedestrian fare.
