Contemporary erotic art

In the realm of contemporary erotic art, a serpent can be interpreted as innuendo or a biblical reference. In this photograph, a nude woman’s torso flexes backward, almost to an unnatural extent. Her knees are bent, thighs forming a “V”. Her head is tilted back and long hair touches the floor.

Her head is tipped back and her eyes are gently closed. Her expression is serine, despite the strenuous effort evident in her posture. Hair flows down the length of her arm, with ample to spare, spread out on the floor near her hand. The abundance of hair amplifies the vertical element of her arm. This region visually balances her legs at the other side of the image.

The angle of her head and body are unusual. She does not face the viewer or acknowledge be observed. Her torso and face are visible, but turned away. This manner of posing imparts an distance between viewer and subject.

The masses of this composition are static, with equal weight between left and right, top and bottom, subject and negative space.

The color palette is simple, composed of two hues: a robins-egg blue, and the peachy glow of skin. The warm tones of the body give way into shadows that fade into grayness rather than a bold dark shadows.

The image borders on the erotic, without being explicit. Her hand caresses her torso sensually, but just below the rib cage, avoiding any erogenous area. Her legs are parted suggestively, yet her hips are turned sideways to the viewer. With regard to eroticism, this contemporary erotic art centers on possibilities rather than a forthright display.

Considerations

This image incorporates blocks of color, evidence of the artist’s hand in the form of digital brush strokes, that are distinct from the photographic effect. This result is most pronounced in the shadow under the figure. These aspects can be examined prior to purchase by fully zooming in on each preview.
