Erotic nude art photography

Erotic nude art photography is often inventive and imaginative. Nevertheless, the artwork is usually rooted in traditions that include the choice of composition, pose, and subject.

This limited-edition erotic nude art photograph features a female swimmer luxuriating in crisp blue water. Nearly all of her body is submerged, with the exception of her hip, her gracefully bent wrist, one breast, and her face. The title of the piece translates from Portuguese to ‘island of beauty,’ alluding to the “islands” created by parts of the subject’s body rising out of the water.

The swimmer’s overall pose and particularly her outstretched index finger call to mind Michelangelo’s ‘The Creation of Adam.’ Like Adam in the painting, the protagonist is nude and has one leg extended and one bent. However, rather than being ashamed of her nakedness as Adam and Eve ultimately were, the swimmer revels in it. Her closed eyes and open mouth indicate that she is relaxed and unabashed, even blissful as her body floats weightlessly in the shimmering water.

The subject is framed on the diagonal, with a slender foot pointing to one corner of the composition and her shoulder angled to the opposite corner. Her smooth golden skin and long dark hair provide a warm contrast to the dazzling blue water. The surface of the water is unperturbed, rippling gently to create a marbled pattern of reflections and shadows. Refracted light plays over the submerged portions of the swimmer’s body while her shadow echoes her pose to the right of her form. The relative uniformity of the blank space around her continuously draws the viewer’s eye back to the subject.

This erotic photograph is decidedly sensual and while it is explicit in nature, it’s neither crass not lurid. Rather, it’s a celebration of the beauty of the female form that reminds the viewer of the deliciously free sensation of swimming in the nude. It evokes that divine summer experience of diving into refreshing water, cool against sun-warmed skin.
